Artist Book Introductions at NIVAL
The National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL), an initiative of NCAD In Partnership with the Arts Council, collects materials that document the development of art practice in Ireland from 1900 to the present day. NIVAL holds arguably the largest collection of unique and handmade artist books in the country with 1,300 catalogued on their website. Join us in exploring a selection of these stunning objects, which take novel approaches to binding, folding and the very concept of what constitutes a book itself.
Taking place in the NIVAL Reading Room, sessions will last approximately 45 minutes. Attendees will enjoy an introduction to what NIVAL is, a talk about specific books, how they are bound and the artist’s intentions, with time for attendees to explore the books themselves before the session ends.
