Do you want to write for children but don’t know where to start? Do you have an idea for a picturebook but don’t know how many words it should be (or if it needs illustrations)? Are you an artist hoping to break into the world of children’s books? This is the event for you! Paddy Donnelly, Patricia Forde and Sarah Webb will be on hand to answer all your questions.


Paddy Donnelly

Paddy Donnelly is an Irish illustrator and author living in Belgium. He has illustrated 17 picture books, and his work has achieved international acclaim as he was nominated for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2022 and shortlisted for The World Illustration Awards. With a fondness for illustrating the sea and animals, Paddy loves working in a textured, painterly approach, and tries to inject a touch of humour to his work wherever he can. He wishes Pluto was still a planet.

Patricia Forde

Patricia Forde is an award-winning children’s writer from Galway. She writes in Irish and in English and has written both picture books and novels as well as 2 many television programmes for children. Her latest offerings include picture books: Fidget The Wonder Dog (Puffin 2020) To The Island /An t-Oileán Thiar (Little Island 2020), Imagine (Little Island 2021) and her Irish language novel Ó Am go hAm (Futa Fata 2021).

Sarah Webb

Sarah Webb writes for all ages, from young children to adults. A double-Irish Book Award Winner for A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea with Steve McCarthy, and Blazing a Trail with Lauren O’Neill, Sarah also runs writing clubs and programmes children’s events for several Irish book festivals. Her other books include Dare to Dream, illustrated by Graham Corcoran, and The Little Bee Charmer of Henrietta Street, which was shortlisted for an Irish Book Award. sarahwebb.ie

WonderFest is an online children’s book festival that aims to celebrate and promote Irish books. It was set up in 2020 and is run by a team of Irish children’s writers and illustrators. WonderFest 2022 will take place from 9th to 13th November in partnership with Dublin Book Festival and supported by dlr Libraries.

There are a range of events for schools, an event for young writers and a webinar for new and emerging children’s writers.
