Rachel Mc Kenna became actively engaged in observing and recording a wide range of wildflowers, insects, and mammals around six years ago. She is involved as a citizen scientist, methodically recording species with the National Biodiversity Data Centre and she is involved in several special interest groups such as ‘Insects and Invertebrates of Ireland’, ‘MothsIreland’ and ‘British and Irish Sawflies’. Adept in research, photography and art Rachel has been able to combine her skill set in the design and content of this book. Step into Nature is the culmination of five years recording, providing a broad range of Irish species. In her career she works as the Senior Executive Architect in Offaly County Council and is author of three books on architecture: Traditional Architecture in Offaly. History, Materials and Furniture 1800 to Present Day (Offaly County Council, 2022) – Shortlisted and Honourable Mention in the Katharine Briggs Award 2023, the London Folklore Society, Flights of Fancy. Follies, Families and Demesnes in Offaly (2017), and Geashill: The Evolution of its Architecture (2012).
