Join Erika and Debbie for a fantastic writing workshop for older classes. They will share lots of writing tips and guide the children through some fun writing exercises. Erika and Debbie love helping children to use their imaginations and creativity. Do have pencils and paper all ready to write along.

Erika McGann is an award-winning children’s author based in Dublin. She writes for all ages and has a wide range of books available, from picture books such as Where Are You, Puffling? with Gerry Daly, to novels such as The Demon Notebook for older readers.  

Erika has done author visits, storytelling sessions and creative writing workshops in schools and libraries all over the country, for festivals, residencies and as part of Poetry Ireland’s Writers in Schools scheme. Her latest books are The Strange Tale of Barnabus Kwerk and Tabitha Plimtock and the Edge of the World, both with illustrations by Phillip Cullen.

Erika has done author visits, storytelling sessions and creative writing workshops in schools and libraries all over the country, for festivals, residencies and as part of Poetry Ireland’s Writers in Schools scheme.

Debbie Thomas trained as a BBC radio journalist. She lived in Bangladesh and South Africa for ten years where she worked for aid agencies. She now lives in County Kildare with her husband and three daughters and has written four books for children: the Abbie Hartley trilogy and Class Act. She is the Writer in Residence at Crumlin Children’s Hospital and a board member of the Irish section of IBBY (the International Board on Books for Young People).

She is an experienced creative writing workshop leader and greatly enjoys helping children to write great stories.

 

WonderFest is an online children’s book festival that aims to celebrate and promote Irish books. It was set up in 2020 and is run by a team of Irish children’s writers and illustrators. WonderFest 2022 will take place from 9th to 13th November in partnership with Dublin Book Festival and supported by dlr Libraries.

There are a range of events for schools, an event for young writers and a webinar for new and emerging children’s writers.
