Family and Children’s Events at DBF 2022

This weekend the Dublin Book Festival will be in full swing and there is no better time to visit Dublin!

Now is the perfect time to plan for your family day out with the kids. All weekend, as part of the Fáilte Ireland Winter in Dublin campaign, we will be offering a huge selection of family-friendly events, suitable for both adults and children to enjoy, all in and around our base at the heart of Dublin City.

On both Saturday and Sunday we will be hosting a Family Treasure Hunt all around Dublin Castle with fun clues and prizes

Creative Stations with guided arts and crafts will be running through the morning and afternoon if you need a little break to sit and be creative after your adventures around Dublin Castle or have a bit of a dance and jig to a mix of Traditional and Modern music by our extremely talented musician’s during our Family Music time, as well as a special performance by members of Kíla. You can even roll the sleeves up and strum a few notes yourself as part of our Children’s Music Workshop.

Settle in to hear master storyteller Niall De Búrca regale you with tales and performance, or join equality storytime with The Gutter Bookshop’s Bob Johnston. Pop into see Guido Fanzini’s Thunderous Entertainment Haberdashery and his comedy circus show for some wild and exciting family entertainment, no booking required!

And last but not least, don’t forget to bring along your books for our Book Swap, where you can freely swap your old books for new ones at our library, or have our Children’s Books Ireland book doctors fill you with suggestions for your next read.

We are also proud to be hosting our amazing Draw-Along events with authors and illustrators Ashwin Chacko, Lucy Kelly-Desmond, Alan Nolan and Jennifer Farley, a Nature spotting adventure with Conor Buscuttil and a chance you really use your imagination at our Design-a-saurus event with Debbie Thomas. Prefer to look at art rather than take part? We have four wonderful art and photography exhibitions happening at The Printworks this weekend.

Make a day of it by enjoying our festival events and then finishing up with a hearty family meal in one of the many city restaurants or cafes nearby. We hope to see you this weekend to take part in all of our family fun!
