Join an illuminating afternoon of discussion celebrating Ireland’s nature and fascinating wildlife. In The Living and the Dead (Merrion Press), acclaimed wildlife author Conor W. O’Brien travels the country to tell the stories of our amazing lost wildlife and reveal the greatest conservation success stories. Wild Waterways (Merrion Press) by Robert O’Leary, with stunning photography and rich text in both Irish and English, is a celebration of the River Dodder, its biodiversity and teeming wildlife, even as it passes through urban spaces. The authors will be in conversation with literary journalist, author and broadcaster Paul Clements.

Conor W. O’Brien is a writer and photographer with a lifelong interest in the natural world. His work has been published in Ireland’s Own, Irish Wildlife magazine and Wings, the official publication of Birdwatch Ireland. Conor’s first book, Ireland Through Birds: Journeys in Search of a Wild Nation, was shortlisted for Best Irish-Published Book at the 2019 An Post Irish Book Awards. His second book, Life in Ireland: A Short History of a Long Time, was published in 2021. Conor is a board member at Birdwatch Ireland.
Robert O’Leary, having spent a long career in the education sector, and with a Masters degree from Trinity College, Dublin, has written and lectured extensively, in Ireland and abroad, on educational matters. He has written a number of books for primary school children and for teachers. Now retired, he devotes much of his time to capturing on camera Ireland’s unique range of birds, mammals and insects, as well as teaching photography. A native of Waterford, he is a member of Offshoot Photography Society, an Associate of the Irish Photographic Federation and a member of Birdwatch Ireland.
