Introduction

Powerscourt House & Gardens, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, is one of Ireland’s most iconic visitor attractions, set at the foothills of the Great Sugar Loaf.

The estate is home to historic interiors and world-renowned gardens, which were named the 3rd Best Garden in the World by National Geographic. Visitors can explore formal terraces, the Italian Garden, woodland walks, seasonal planting, and pollinator-friendly blooms throughout the year. Powerscourt is also recognised as one of Ireland’s premier sustainable visitor attractions, with a strong focus on biodiversity, conservation, and encouraging engagement with nature. On-site dining is available at the Avoca Café, where visitors can enjoy food and coffee with stunning views towards the Sugar Loaf, alongside shopping at Avoca, the Irish Design Loft, and a range of independent boutiques and gift shops.

 

Transit

Powerscourt Estate is located just 20 minutes south of Dublin, or 40 minutes from the airport, and there are many transportation options available to get there.

Full details and directions can be found at the Powerscourt Estate website, including bus drop-offs in Enniskerry village, which is a 20 minute walk from the Estate.

There is ample parking at Powerscourt including accessible car parking.

If you travel by hire car and use an environmentally friendly electric car you can recharge onsite at our EV charging stations using the easy go app.

Accessibility

Accessibility Overview

There is good access to the gardens, shops and terrace café and wheelchairs are available to borrow while you enjoy your visit with us. We recommend that these are booked in advance  through our reception team to avoid any disappointment. Unfortunately, access to our first  floor shops is not possible in a wheelchair as there are several steps.

Wheelchair users and families with buggies will find our attractions easy to access, and our  facilities suitably equipped. Those with limited mobility will appreciate the number of  benches and picnic tables located in both Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall.

Event Accessibility Policy

Powerscourt Estate is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all  guests attending events on the Estate, including wheelchair users and people with limited  mobility. We aim to accommodate accessibility needs wherever reasonably possible while  also ensuring the safety of all guests and staff.

Wheelchair Access: Key event areas within Powerscourt Estate are accessible to wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility. Where level access is not available, alternative arrangements will be made in advance where possible.
Lift Access: Powerscourt Estate has a lift that provides access to upper floor. Please note that this lift is not for public use. A member of Powerscourt staff will accompany and  assist guests when using the lift to ensure safe and appropriate operation.

Limitations and Safety

Due to the historic nature of the Estate, some areas may have access limitations. Where full access is not possible, Powerscourt will work with the event organisers to identify a suitable alternative. All accessibility arrangements must comply with health and safety requirements, and staff instructions must be followed at all times.

Powerscourt Estate prides itself on the welcome we offer to all our visitors and being an  accessible destination for everyone.

Please be advised that if you are a wheelchair user or have restricted mobility, some areas of  the gardens may be inaccessible due to their historic layout and heritage features.

Accessibility at Powerscourt House & Gardens

  • Parking: Disabled Parking is available in our carpark.
  • Drop-off Point: Disabled visitors are welcome to stop at the drop off point at the front of Powerscourt House. Carer & Assistants: Carers travelling with people with disabilities are entitled to free entrance to the Gardens.
  • Disabled Route: There is a disabled route through Powerscourt Gardens. Our reception team will be delighted to help you with any queries.
  • Café: There is disabled access to the Terrace Café and Terrace area.
  • Toilets: There are disabled toilets available in Powerscourt House.
  • Lift: There is a lift to the ballroom on first floor of Powerscourt House.
  • Wheelchairs: There are wheelchairs at our house reception which visitors to the  gardens are welcome to use. Please book in advance by phoning +353 (0)1 204 6000  to avoid any disappointment. A €20 refundable deposit is required.
  • Dogs: Dogs are not permitted in Powerscourt House, but we welcome Guide Dogs  with open arms.
  • Accessibility at Powerscourt Waterfall
  • Parking: There is ample parking at the waterfall, close to the refreshment area and  toilet facilities.
  • Toilets: There are disabled toilets available at the waterfall
  • Access: The areas surrounding the waterfall are largely accessible for wheelchairs.  Please call us on +353 (0)1 204 6000. If you have specific queries or ask our staff at the waterfall when you arrive.
