Sustainability

Introduction

Dublin Book Festival is committed to delivering a festival that prioritises and promotes sustainable practices. By reviewing our own procedures, and working closely with our partner suppliers and venues, we strive to minimise our own impact, contribute to a positive change within the industry, and programme events that educate and inspire around pressing environmental issues.

Venues

We work closely with partner venues according to their own sustainability and climate action policies. The Festival Hub for 2025, IMMA Venues, where many of our events will take place, lays out a detailed Climate Action Policy. Throughout our venues and events we implement sustainability policies including no single use plastics, limiting paper usage, and where possible seeking out suppliers using sustainably sourced paper.

Suppliers

We strive to prioritise local suppliers, and seek out suppliers operating according to sustainable practices.

Transit

As a festival taking place in venues all around the city, public transport is highly available and encouraged. All our venues are easily reached by public transport and further information can be found on our dedicated Venues Pages.

Programming

Each year we programme a dynamic strand of events exploring pressing topical issues around the environment, biodiversity, climate change, sustainability, and more. Events include stimulating and inspiring conversation with experts, as well as interactive workshops for both adults and children, all providing key advice and practical tips for audience members to take away and action following the festival. For the last few years, we have operated a ‘Grow Your Own’ tent at our Festival Hub, where visitors can plant their own bulb or sapling, and take it away to grow at home, armed with practical advice from our expert.

Conclusion

Our sustainability policy is reviewed throughout the year and in continuous development as part of our commitment to contributing to a greener future for the festival and culture industry in Ireland.
