Off the Scéal With Special Guest Louisa Ní Éideáin
Join us for a dynamic evening of performance and cultural expression. Off The Scéal is a Multilingual Open Mic and Seanachaí Night, aiming to bring people across communities together and build empathy through language and Art – be it storytelling, poetry, singing, or comedy.
Trí scéalaíocht, filíocht, ceol agus greann, cruthaíonn Off The Scéal spás ina mbíonn fáilte roimh gach teanga. Fáiltíonn Off The Scéal roimh lucht labhartha na Gaeilge, an Bhéarla agus teangacha eile, agus roinneann sé an stáitse chun na naisc idir ár bpobail a cheiliúradh.
The special guest for the evening will be Louisa Ní Éideáin.
Off The Scéal is co-curated by Daniel Flynn and Ola Majekodunmi.
Louisa Ní Éideáin is a bi-lingual writer and performer (Gaeilge and English) based in Dublin. In 2022, Louisa received an adult diagnosis of ADHD. She reacted in a way that perhaps confirms her diagnosis by throwing herself into writing a one-woman show (as Gaeilge and in English) that premiered as part of the Scene & Heard Festival (and sold-out). A trained musician, she infuses her comedic performances with catchy songs. She has studied and performed improv comedy at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre in New York and has regularly played in bands during her 9 years of living and working abroad. Louisa is a regular contributor on Newstalk and has appeared on various shows on TG4. She is a passionate Gaeilgeoir and is raising her two young sons through Irish and French with the French husband she picked up along her travels.
Daniel Patrick Flynn is a Wicklow born poet and playwright based in Dublin. As a writer, Daniel’s poetry is often deeply concerned with themes of mental health and empathy— reflecting on how we all connect, perceive the world, and respond to the challenges of being human. He has performed as a featured act around Dublin at Spoken Word events such as Hold That Keep It and Dublin’s Finest, as well as internationally at the San Patrizio Livorno Festival, and in December he was named Circle Session’s Poet of the Year.
Ola Majekodunmi was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Dublin, Ireland. She is a broadcaster, writer, Gaeilgeoir, creative producer and workshop facilitator. She’s produced and spoken/performed at literary events with the likes of San Patrizio Livorno Festival, IASIL Conference, Dublin International Literature Festival, Cúirt International Festival of Literature, LYRA-Bristol, Poetry Ireland (Céadlínte), West Cork Literary Festival and Irish Writers Centre. Majekodunmi has performed her poems at home in Ireland and internationally in Italy and Egypt. Her poetry and prose work have been published in Cnámh & Smior, including poetry journals, magazines and zines such as Poetry Ireland’s Trumpet, COMHAR, Storms, Airmid and Blue Bodies. Majekodunmi writes primarily in Irish, English and Yoruba. She has also released poetry films with NÓS Magazine and Axis Ballymun, Dublin.
