Join us for an in-depth discussion between author Zoltán Danyi and his Northern Irish translator Owen Good on the occasion of the launch of the first English-language translation (from Hungarian) of Danyi’s prize-winning first novel: The Carcass Remover. Published by Bullaun Press, Ireland’s first press dedicated to literature in translation.

Zoltán Danyi was born in Senta (Serbia) in 1972. He is the author of a short story collection and several volumes of poetry and prose. His two novels A dögeltakarító (The Carcass Remover, 2015) and A rózsákról (About the Roses, 2021) were highly acclaimed in Hungary. They have been translated into German also. The Carcass Remover is the winner of the Miklós Mészöly Prize, the Tibor Déry Prize and the Milán Füst Prize.

Owen Good is a Northern Irish translator living in Budapest, where he is co-editor of Hungarian Literature Online. Winner of the Tibor Déry Prize in 2025 for his devotion to the Hungarian language and literature, his publications include Krisztina Tóth’s Pixel (named runner up for EBRD Literature Prize), Zsolt Láng’s The Birth of Emma K. (co-translated with Ottilie Mulzet), Pál Závada’s Market Day and most recently White Wolf by Krisztina Tóth and Other Death by Ferenc Barnás.
